Facts and Myths About Dieting

By Gerald Shepard

Diets are very useful in helping you shed pounds but a lot of the time dieters get very frustrated and disappointed. There are a variety of reasons for this, but they often come down to a lack of understanding about certain fundamentals of weight loss. If you have chosen a diet that makes outlandish promises, to use one example, but you should not be surprised if that diet lets you down. Here are some very important guidelines that you need to keep in mind when you want to go on any kind of diet.

Do you move from one diet to the other really quickly? This isn't uncommon; in fact, it is a mistake that lots of people make all the time. This mistake is not at all uncommon; plenty of people make it. You can't expect a diet to work instantly, no matter which diet you have chosen if you don't give your diet the chance to really work, you can't honestly complain if you do not lose as much weight as you want to lose. Changing your diet is confusing for your mind as well as for your body. Choose the diet plan you want to follow carefully and then stick with it for a few months and track your results. This is when you review the progress you have made and decide if the diet is worth sticking with. Don't just switch every couple of weeks or you'll never find a diet that works for you.

If you're always going to restaurants or getting takeaway food, you are going to be sabotaging your efforts to lose weight. It doesn't matter what sort of restaurant you've chosen; you're going to eat bigger portions of higher calorie foods than you would have if you had just eaten at home. The same is true for every single meal, so if you've been going out for lunch a lot at work, think about making your lunch in your kitchen and bringing it to work with you each day. This doesn't mean that you should never treat yourself to a meal cooked by someone else but if you go out to eat a lot you're basically sabotaging your weight loss efforts. There are simply too many temptations and portion sizes that are too big for you to have any success with your diet.

Thanks to all of the press that has been given to low carb diets lately, people have started to think that every carbohydrate is bad. This isn't true at all; your body needs carbs to keep up your energy throughout the day. There are plenty of foods that already have carbohydrates in them, even vegetables, so the goal isn't to have no carbs, it is to have the right carbs. What you want is to avoid the carbs that are heavily processed like sugar or white flour. Whole grains, fruits and veggies are healthy kinds of carbs. The good low carb diets will actually tell you this so if someone tries to tell you that all carbs are bad it just means that they didn't study their diet books well enough.

Diets can be very helpful tools but they won't do the actual work of losing weight for you. Try to remember that your health and the amount of weight that you actually lose is dependent upon everything that you do all day, every day. There is no such thing as perfection when you take a diet so, do not expect perfection from yourself. It is important to recognize that when you want the results of your diet to last, you need to make an honest and true commitment to the rules of your diet and take them seriously.

You can have measures in place to help prevent motivation issues in the first place. You can add a variety of exercises and utilize some sort of fitness equipment like an Air Climber within your fitness training program. You can also add some sort of safe and secure fitness exercises to further assist you in your physical fitness routine. Just make sure to choose the appropriate equipment that suites your needs.
