Taking care of your skin is very important to maintain your looks. If your skin is sensitive, but you still want the benefit of softer skin that you can get from a gentle exfoliation, put away the bath scrubs. Replace the scrubs with a simple, clean, undyed cloth made of natural fibers. After you get out of the bath, use this cloth to lightly rub the skin on your back, shoulders, arms and legs. This ensures that you remove dead skin cells without risking irritation from harsh chemicals or abrasive scrub particles.

It is best to under-do, rather than over-do, make-up. Many types of foundation, concealer and powder can build up in your pores. Clogged pores increase acne outbreaks and can worsen existing outbreaks. If you choose to apply makeup over your acne, you are making way for infection. Until your blemishes clear, you might want refrain from using much makeup. Do not try to hide blemishes using concealers or toners.

Keeping your body hydrated is necessary when caring for your skin. If you fail to drink appropriate amounts of water your skin will become dehydrated. When this happens, your skin may become dry, itchy and irritable. In order to prevent this problem from occurring, be sure to drink plenty of water.

Your skin needs protection from the sun. Beware of ultraviolet rays as they can cause much damage to your skin. While everyone enjoys being outdoors in the sunshine, you should monitor your exposure to the the sun's UV rays.

Use a humidifier in your home to prevent winter induced dry skin. Dehumidified air caused by a furnace can result in cracked dry skin and dry frizzy hair. Purchase a humidifier and put it in the corner of the room that you are in most so that there is more moisture throughout the air in your house.

If your foundation doesn't contain sunscreen, you can add some by combining a sunscreen with your foundation. Many already contain SPF protection. When you find yourself in this situation, you can add a separate sunscreen directly to your foundation. Mix a small amount of sunscreen with your foundation and apply it to your face.

Understand your skin type so that you can better choose a skin care routine. Using skin products made for oily complexions makes little sense if you suffer from dry skin. If you are unsure, invest in a visit to a skin care consultant so they can point you in the right direction.

Water is essential to life. Beauty starts on the inside, and that means staying hydrated is key to good skin. Drinking eight or more glasses of water each day is necessary to keep your skin softer and more supple.

Make your own lip balm to help fight the drying effects of the elements. Combine grated cucumber, raw honey and a small dab of sour cream, then apply the mixture to your lips. Allow it to remain on your lips for up to 15 minutes. After this, use warm water to rinse it off your lips with and put on almond oil so the moisture sticks.
